Collage 207. “Duck Clams,” 2023. These are my black and white photographs of the circular side vault windows of Fort Pulaski (1847) on Cockspur Island, near Tybee Island. The “monument has one of the best preserved nineteenth century masonry fortifications in the United States and is the site of a major artillery duel during the Civil War.” They are printed on three colors of paper over brown mono-print of sea grass. Below a silver mono-print of sea glass over cyanotype on red paper, with silver painted sea grass and a large red painted sequin, 9 x 6 inches. Title refers to type of the area’s shells. This collage is influenced by a trip to Savanah with the family in early October and the signifier is the red, blue and teal mono-print of a shell gathered from the local beaches.

 My Collage 206: “Snowflakes, Serenity, Snuggle, Slush,” 2023. At top is a blue cyanotype photogram of snowflake charms on dark blue paper symbolizing the short days, my black and white photographs of the frozen landscape flashing by the car on the Pennsylvania Turnpike , a buddha found on a hike along the Overlook Mountain Trail, my self-portrait in a sleet storm, and bare trees reflected in a frozen pond. Over a blue mono-print, blue rice paper, a silken bag, cast numbers in white plastic, counting out the interminable length of winter, and a few colored grommets over black glitter.

The hours, especially between 3:30 am and dawn, are spent watching the traffic headlights dance across my walls, then the blush of the new day filtering through the leaves of my Philodendron Giganteum. This is my black and white photographs printed on four colors of paper and in cyanotype. In poured plastic is beads and grommets. Blue mono-print and graphite, 9 x 4.5 inches.

Collage 201. “Firmament.” This is the November prompt “SKY” from @contemporarycollagemagazine Some times a collage fights you to the end. I tried this topic three times and I have a pile of torn paper to show for it. This is a photograph of the sky I shot over the George Washington Bridge printed on rice paper, a gold leaf square, two color printed stolen images of airplanes. Below that is a strip of handmade paper made from old jeans with star charms sewn down, another cloud image I shot over New York harbor printed on another type of rice paper, and a cyanotype photogram of seed pods. Below that mono-printing in gold and a black and white photograph of Sarah and Jeff, hand colored.
